My name is Trevor Fisher, a UK trained nurse with a wide range of professional experiences including working in palliative care and for an NGO in Calcutta, India. I also endured and survived one the of biggest mass casualty events in modern history when I lived in Phuket, Thailand during the Asian Tsunami.
Throughout my personal life and also my professional career I have found that there is a significant difference between a predictable death following an illness and the experience of sudden and often traumatic bereavement due to accidents, disasters, suicide or homicide.
There are some conversations that neither the bereaved nor those who’s role it is to deliver that devastating news get to have and that is what I hope to change and I need your help.
I understand this is not an easy subject but I think there is a lot we don’t know about this experience.
I believe I have developed a vocabulary that allows me to sensitively and respectfully talk about death. This has happened accidentally largely a result of the things I have been exposed to from the age of sixteen and into my career in nursing and beyond.
My aim is to have frank and honest conversations.
Please be reassured this is not some sort of macabre entertainment, there will not be any exploitation and each conversation can be as anonymous as you feel you need.
